Mega Update: Stem Recording & Livestream

Mega Update: Stem Recording & Livestream

Lutefish has received a major update with the introduction of livestreaming and stem recording (beta), now available to all users.

Stem Recording

Stem recording allows users to record every Lutefish Stream device in a session as a separate audio track or “stem.” If every session member has their own Lutefish Stream, you can record every member’s audio separately, perfect for post-processing, such as setting volume levels, adjusting EQ, applying effects, and panning tracks throughout the stereo field, all on a per-track basis.

Details

•    Stems (audio tracks) are recorded at 48Khz and stored in FLAC format.
•    Users can record up to one hour of audio at a time.
•    Lutefish can record one audio stem for each device in a session (Both of the Stream’s audio inputs are summed into one stem).
•    Each stem is recorded in mono.
•    Stem recording is still in BETA, and we are currently working through a known issue:

Stems may record with slightly different start times, requiring manual timing adjustment in a DAW for the best results. We are working to fix this issue as soon as possible.

How to use Stem Recording

To start recording stems, click the record button in the session toolbar and select Record Stems.

Records incoming audio of whoever starts the recording

The stem recording feature records the incoming audio of the session member who initiates the recording. Some connections may be better than others, so you’ll want to make sure whoever initiates the recording is experiencing stable and clean audio from all session members. If someone has a spotty connection or is experiencing audio crackling and dropouts, choose another session member to initiate the recording.

You can record up to one hour of audio at a time. To stop recording, click the record button again and click Stop Stem Recording in the pop-up.

Leave your Stream device on with the Ethernet cable connected after stopping recording or leaving the session, as the device needs time to upload the recordings. The stem recording feature initially records the audio stems locally onto the Stream of the user who initiates the recording. When recording

Accessing your recordings

Stem recordings capture the summed audio output from each Lutefish Stream device in the session. The recordings are initially recorded directly onto the device of the session member who starts the recording, then the Stream uploads the recorded stems as FLAC files. All session members can access all the stems from a session.

To access your stem recordings, click on your profile name in the upper-right and select My Music Files.

Select Stem Recordings from the left side menu, and you will see a list of all your recorded stems. You can download your stems by clicking the three dots under Actions.

Stem Recording is still in beta

While all users can currently access the stem recording function, the feature is not finished. We decided to release in beta to get your feedback and use your thoughts and experiences to further develop this new feature to the best state possible. Don’t get us wrong, Stem Recording works on Lutefish, but there may be the occasional hiccup while we continue to fine-tune things. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we can’t thank you enough for being a part of our community and helping us to make Lutefish better.

Livestream

Engage your audience with Lutefish Livestream, a new feature allowing you to share a real-time video feed of your performance. From any Lutefish session, you can easily generate a shareable livestream link and begin broadcasting the session to your audience.

Details

•    Outputs 48 kHz audio and 720p video
•    Generate Livestream links from within a session
•    A livestream link can be created as soon as you schedule a session.

How To Livestream a Lutefish Session

Engage your audience with Lutefish Livestream, a new feature allowing you to share a real-time video feed of your performance.

To start a livestream, click the three dots in the session toolbar and select livestreaming.

Copy the link in the resulting pop-up window, and share it with your audience. When you’re ready to begin streaming, click Start Live Streaming.

You can also generate a link for a future livestream to distribute to your audience. You can generate a livestream link as soon as you schedule a session, regardless of how far in the future the session is. Once you’ve scheduled the session, join the session and generate the link. You can now distribute this link to your audience. The livestream will begin when you join the session again and click the Start Live Streaming button.
